A section of the Thika superhighway will be closed for three months – This is to pave way for construction works at the overpass at GSU headquarters – Kenya Urban Roads Authority said the overpass will be closed from April 22 to July 18, 2019 - The construction works are set to improve the junction between the super highway and Outer Ring

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced closure of the overpass at General Service Unit (GSU) junction of Thika Super Highway and Outer Ring Road. The authority stated the busy highway will not be accessible at the junction for three months in order to facilitate construction to improve traffic flow at the overpass.

A statement by KURA on Thursday, April 28, indicated the road will be closed from Easter Monday, April 22, until July 18, 2019. “Due to the ongoing construction works to improve the junction between Thika super highway and Outer Ring Road, the Public is hereby notified that the contractor shall close the overpass at GSU Headquarters as from Monday, April 22 till Thursday, July 18,” KURA said..

The authority further stated during the construction period, motorists will be required to use alternative route. Thika-bound traffic from Outer Ring Road will use Right Hand Service Road of Thika super highway and turn right on the underpass at Survey of Kenya. Airport-bound traffic from Nairobi CBD through Outer Ring will proceed ahead using left hand side service lane of the highway up to Garden City overpass, turn right and drive back to access Outer Ring Road.

Traffic coming from Outer Ring Road and want to drive back to the same road will drive up to Survey of Kenya underpass, turn right and continue up to Garden City overpass, turn right again to drive back to access it. The road sauthority apologised for the inconveniences caused and provided a traffic diversion plan to all road users. “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your continued understanding and co-operation,” KURA said.
