Court declares Gatundu North Parliamentary seat vacant
The court, through Justice Weldon Korir has today declared the Gatundu north Parliamentary seat vacant.
According to the judge, IEBC can now conduct fresh parliamentary elections for the constituency.
The deputy registrar has also been instructed to forward the ruling to the speaker of the National Assembly for appropriate action.
“I declare that the seat of the MP Hon Anne Wanjiku has become vacant,” Korir said
According to Justice Weldon Korir, election by Hon Wanjiku was in violation of the law.
The former member of parliament Clement Kungu had moved to court to challenge Wanjiku’s election.
The court of appeal directed the case to be heard afresh.
The court had been told that Wanjiku was not qualified to be when she was still a member of a county assembly with a monthly salary and all the other benefits and responsibilities accorded to that position.
