How To Wake Up Early
The first thing that everyone should understand even before figuring out how to be a morning person is that no one actually wants to be a morning person. It is not a trait that people are born with, you have to work to achieve it.
It is so weird how that little sleep that comes right after you ignore or snooze your alarm could ruin your whole day. If you are looking to be as productive as possible, you need to learn how to wake up as soon as your alarm goes off. So how do you get to wake up early?
Early means different things to different people. Some people believe that waking up at 7 am is early whereas others believe that waking up early means getting up at 4 am. So whatever your goal is these simple tips will help you get up at the exact time you aspire to.
Sleep Early And Turn Off All Your Screens
No one is asking you to sleep less just because you want to wake up early. There is a way to recover those hours where you could have slept in. Instead of having to sleep in to acquire your preferred hours of sleep, just sleep early. Basically, this waking up process starts from the previous night. So as to sleep early, it is advisable that you have a little evening routine. If you have a 9-5 job, make sure you get home before 7. Take a shower, take your dinner early, have your alone time maybe catch up on a Netflix series then turn off your screens and get to bed early. This depends on the time you want to wake up.
Honor Your Alarm/ The 5 minute Rule
Some of us have become so good at snoozing to a point where we can do it in our sleep. This isn’t even a joke, some pick snooze or dismiss their alarm without even having to wake up. For a person who wants to wake up early, this is the worst thing you could ever do to yourself. It is advisable that you leave your phone in another room so that when the alarm goes off, you have to wake up and turn it off. If not, incorporate this little trick and it will work magic. Basically, after your alarm goes off, count from 5 backward. This opens up your mind in doing something and that wakes you up, After getting to 1 you will be awake and your body will naturally want to wake up and do something.
Make Your Bed
This is something we hear every day. Making your bed makes everything better. Get out of your bed and tidy it up, that way you cant be tempted to jump back in.
Make This Time Your Me Time
Let’s be honest, if you have a day to day job, all you want to do after getting home in the evening is taking a shower, eating and having a relaxed evening. This way, we barely get time to ourselves where we do things for ourselves. By waking up early, you take back a few minutes which can help you have your little me time before everyone else is in your business. Whatever makes you happy, do that. It could be reading, journaling, taking your lemon water, skincare, exercise, lay out your outfit for the day or even make a plan for the day. Dedicate this few minutes to You and you alone!
Have A Reason To Wake Up
This could be our last trick but it is the most important one. Even in life, you have to have something that drives you to do the things you do. For example, most parents will tell you that the reason they want to wake up and go to work every single day is to be able to put smiles on the faces of their kids. In the same way, you need to have a reason to wake up early. For most people, it is either to have one hour for themselves or to be able to exercise. Whatever it is, make it clear to yourself. that way, you will have a goal that you are working towards. After exercising for two months and you start seeing some results, you will be so proud of yourself for decided to make up one hour earlier.
Remember that it takes 21 days to create a habit. The first few days of waking up early will not be simple but after about a month it will be part of your lifestyle.
Let’s make 2020 the year that we truly choose ourselves and our well being!
