The Kenya Wildlife Service a statement on Friday urging area resident of Laikipia to be aware of some stray elephants. The elephants caused a standstill in the County after they were spotted walking along the road.
“A herd of five male elephants on migration from Laikipia to Mau have lost their route and are wandering around Timboroa forest dam. You are advised to exercise caution if in this area. Our teams are currently on the ground,” the statement issued on Friday reads.
After that, the elephants were spotted in Baringo and sadly, they have attacked a 19-year-old boy who had been sent by his father to get their livestock from the forest.
Emmanuel Kipchumba is said to have been attacked on Thursday after he went to the forest to search for his father’s livestock that had gone missing the previous day. He was later rescued by good Samaritans who rushed him to Timboroa Health Center where he received first aid before he was transferred to Eldama Ravine Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
Baringo County Deputy warden David Cheruiyot affirmed that there were five elephants spotted wandering in the area.
