Mashujaa Day in Kisii
This years mashujaa day celebrations are being held at the Gusii stadium in Kisii county. Thousands of Kisii residents have turned up to witness the event.
In the wee hours of the morning, residents had already lined up ready to enter the stadium and grace the event.
Security agencies were busy patrolling the town to ensure that everything was in order. Police officers had mounted roadblocks across the town with vehicles barred from accessing the town’s Central Business District. Only authorized vehicles were allowed access.
This gave the town a different look from the usual congestion of traffic by vehicles and motor cycles.
Infrastructure had also been improved ahead of the event. Photos of Kenyan heroes had been placed strategically on billboards across the town.
According to a report by the Standard, some residents had queued at the entrance from as early as 5.00am.
“I did not want to be locked out of the stadium and thats why i decided to wake up early and be among the first people to enter the stadium,” one of the residents said
”I am a big fan of our daughter Hellen Obiri who is one of our heroines. I am hoping she will be feted today and that is why i woke up early to grace the occasion,” another one said
Strict adherence to Covid-19 rules were being observed at the entrance. The military band had already started entertaining the guests from as early as 7;30am.
The event has boosted the business if many in Kisii especially those with hotels since they have been hosting and feeding guests from across the country.
