The government has been working hard these past few days to try and get rid of meat allegedly being preserved with harmful additives. This came by after reporter Dennis Okari exposed local stores for adding Sodium Metabisulfite on red meat.
Nairobi County Health officials raided Tuskys supermarket yesterday for selling Red meat containing harmful additives. It was reported earlier this week that some stored had been adding a preservative by the name Sodium Metabisulfite on their red meat. The raid happened after he County Health Insepcrorate allegedly bought the meat from the store and took it for testing only to find out that it contained the preservatives.
Naivas stores suspend red meat sale
Naivas Supermarket has now suspended the sale of red meat across all its stores countrywide pending the results of independent testing.
“We will only be selling white meat for now in all our butcheries. We are presently cooperating with national and county government agencies to address the issue. customer welfare remains paramount for the firm and we do not use or condone the use of any chemical preservatives for meat products, we will take strong legal action against anybody found to have supplied contaminated meat to Naivas.” read the statement.
