New reports in regards to the death of former President of Burundi Pierre Nkurunzinza have emerged.
The new reports indicate that the President was allegedly admitted to the hospital over coronavirus prior to his death.
According to Opposition figures, diplomats and journalists living in exile, the 55-year-old President had been admitted to a hospital over the novel coronavirus but they couldn’t be made public because he had downplayed the virus all along.
“He had coronavirus but no one would say so because the president had played it down all along,” a Bujumbura based envoy said.

A diplomat who asked to remain anonymous said that one of the country’s few ventilators was flown by helicopter to Karuzi in a desperate bid to save the president’s life even as officials contemplated airlifting him to Nairobi or Dar es Salaam for treatment.
“The ventilator arrived too late. He deteriorated very quickly,” the source was quoted by The Telegraph.
His death happened at a time when his wife too had been airlifted to Agha Khan hospital, Nairobi Kenya over coronavirus.
She was treated at the Aga Khan University Hospital until Wednesday, June 10, when she was rushed back home following the death of her husband.
