Parkingfinder is a Kenyan technology that connects drivers to parking spaces while easing parking management and improving earnings for the owners.
The app was launched in December 2018 in Nairobi to solve parking problems for drivers in the city. “We are excited to create a local solution for our cities. Parkingfinder Kenya provides real-time data on the available parking spaces to replace the outdated manual method of circling around town to look for available spaces”, says the CTO, Mr Cyrus.
Parkingfinder Kenya uses the most common technology, the smartphone. The app not only saves the time, fuel, and other wear & tear for drivers but also enables easy parking through online reservation and payment. The hassles of parking in Nairobi and other major towns are now a thing of the past. The app is both conserving the environment and helping to reduce traffic congestion by enabling speedy parking.
Parking owners have expressed their satisfaction with the app owing to increased income. According to Mr Chege, a parking owner in Ngara, the app has more than doubled his earnings. He has witnessed the power of increased visibility since every driver in Kenya can easily locate, pay, and be navigated to his parking space. Also, he is able to earn more from his carwash business which now has more traffic.Mr Chege says, “I can now concentrate on my other activities because Parkingfinder covers all my managerial activities. I get a comprehensive description of all vehicles that booked my spaces, those in session, and the earnings from each session. The scanning feature eliminates my worry about the security of the vehicles because each vehicle is scanned in and a second time when leaving the premises.”
Parkingfinder Kenya is also encouraging people with underutilised spaces to convert and earn from them. It is easy to upload the spaces in shopping malls, churches, schools, and even driveways. It is an easy way of making passive income.
There are no extra charges for the drivers except when they book executive spaces. The app offers different pricing models varying from Ksh. 30 per hour, Ksh.200 per day or night, and Ksh. 6000 monthly package. The app is available for free on Google Play Store.
