Jimmy Githinji Wayuni, a popular Kikuyu Benga musician has died.
His tragic death has happened after the singer succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident that he was involved on Tuesday evening.
The accident took place along Thika superhighway in Githurai area.
Ruiru OCPD Phineas Ringera said that the musician’s vehicle reportedly rammed into a lorry as he was driving to the city.
“The driver rammed into a lorry at around 10 pm while driving to Nairobi. He was immediately rushed to St Joseph Hospital in Githurai 45 where he passed on,” said the OCPD.
Githinji’s body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home.
The musician was popularly known for hit songs like Airitu a Ruiru, Mama Sululu and Macokia ma Queen Jane. The singer was however somewhat controversial especially to the ladies with most of them accusing him of writing sexist lyrics.
One such song Airitu a Ruiru (Ruiru girls) angered many women because in it the singer accused women from Ruiru of being terrible lovers capable of killing a husband by eating him up.
His friends and fans have been saddened by his sudden demise and have sent messages of condolences to his family.
His demise came about nine months after the death of Kikuyu Benga maestro John De’Mathew.
