Kamukunji Police Station OCS is being summoned by a Nairobi Court after a suspect accused of kidnapping a police officer escaped from the police cell where he had been detained. Police officers attached to Kamukunji Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Martin Wasike, a Ugandan, was accused of abducting and possibly murdering a police officer in January. He was ordered to be detained in the police station until June 2nd 2020.
Wasike was charged alongside two other suspects, Shariff Wanabwa and Phoebe Anindo, with the offence of kidnapping in order to murder. They allegedly kidnapped constable Abel Musati on January 19, 2020, at an undisclosed location.
“…on or about January 19, 2020, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court kidnapped police constable Abel Misati in order that the said officer may be murdered or disposed of as to be put in danger of being murdered,” reads the charge sheet.
following a request by lawyer Alfred Nyandieka, representing the family of the police officer, Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot directed on Monday that the OCS appear in court on Tuesday to explain circumstances under which the suspect identified as Martin Wasike escaped from lawful custody.
